Michelle Lancaster is a family and consumer science teacher and has been teaching various FCS subjects since 1997. Michelle attended Baylor University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics. She teaches culinary classes for Amarillo College’s continuing education program during her spare time and is a ServSafe certified instructor. She has been a member of FCSTAT (Family and Consumer Science Teacher Association of Texas) and an advisor for FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) since 1997. Michelle is also a member of
AAFCS (American Association of Family and Consumer Science.)
Michelle started teaching at Bushland in 2007. Prior to that, she taught at Boys Ranch High School for 10 years, Michelle helped write curriculum, develop lesson plans and create activities for an online nutrition course for a publishing company out of India. She was also a co-author of a textbook for Goodheart-Willcox that is used in schools across the USA. She also created the labs and activities for the textbook. During the summer she works as a consultant, presenter, and writes curriculum for various educational agencies.
In 2010, Michelle was awarded the Family and Consumer Science Teacher of the Year Award for the state of Texas, and in 2010-2011 she was awarded the Region I Texas State Teacher of the Year Award. Johnson and Wales University awarded her with the honor of “Outstanding Texas State Teacher.” Michelle has been elected by her peers and administration to serve on many committees throughout her years of teaching. She has served on her site-based committee, Region 16 Education Service Center’s CTE Advisory board, District Instruction Leadership Team, plus many others. Michelle has been an FCCLA advisor to three regional officers and 2 state officers and has had many groups win at the National level for FCCLA.
Michelle currently teaches Nutrition, Career Preparation I/II and Community Service Class. She also is the advisor for FCCLA.
Before teaching Michelle was the Area Sales Manager for Dillards Department store. She also opened Talbots Women’s Clothing store in Wolflin Village in 1994 as the Store Manager. She then worked for Best Buy as their Operations Manager before deciding to make a career change and become a teacher. Michelle taught at Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch for 10 years and has been with Bushland High School since 2007.
Michelle lives in Amarillo, Texas with her husband of 28 years and her two sons. Alex is a Sophomore at Texas Tech University and Brad is a Junior at West Plains High School. She hopes to impart students with the pertinent life skills that will help them succeed and equip them with the knowledge to manage their lives and their future.
